My son has asked me to book this restaurant for his 18th. Can anyone tell me what it's like? I know it's a buffett menu but what is the standard of food & service like. I know it's not rugby related but thought you guys might be able to help. Cheers.

It isnt a place Id go to for a celebration anyway.
I always found the chinese near carmill on the lancs, brilliant. But I heard its changed its management since I last went so dont know what its like now

Been once didn't like it, food ok but the place is to big & noisy its like being in a works canteen, this is just my opinion

Was there a few weeks back. it was not fantastic TBH. i have always found the Abacus chinese resturant at the reebock staduim to be fantastic. very good food, nice decor and not massively expensive.

The Pheonix is just public glutony when the all you can eat is on. mind you it serves that purpose very well!!

Thanks for being honest. You've confirmed what I expected really. Cost isn't an issue but he insists on Chinese food & will probably be going out around Wigan later so that's the reason we're looking for one nearby. The Carr Mill one did used to be excellent but like you say, it's changed hands now. Back to the drawing board then.

If you can't find a chinese I'd personally recommend Jamals Indian on Robin Park (next to the cinemas). It's not too pricey, the food is nice and the best bit - you can take your own booze

There's a great one in Standish called Chinese Delight. It's a taxi ride from Wigan but it's one of the best ones around.

There's a new one in Wigan town centre near Maximes. Can't remember what it's called but people I have spoken to say it is good.

Was just going to recommend that one myself. Excellent food, excellent service - really want a chinese now

I've driven past Chinese Delight loads of times. It looks nice so I might give them a ring. Would have liked somewhere nearer to town but would rather travel & enjoy a good meal than be disapointed later.

There's a Chinese buffet place on Wallgate if that's your plan. Food on a par if slightly better than that at the Pheonix. Someone else described it as a works canteen. Couldn't describe it any better. Went once and couldn't get near the food for hairy ar$de builders in dirty boots and high-vis jackets.

Is that the one above Little Fifteens? Think it's called Golden Dragon.

Not too bad for a cheapo buffet meal but I wouldn't recommend it for an 18th birthday meal.
