Quote Magic Superbeetle="Magic Superbeetle"There's no stop in play. Had hanbury been tackled, the play would of been stopped for them to receive treatment, or if Tasi had completed the tackle before releasing, it would of been halted. But the referee cannot stop play halfway through a phase. Once the ball is dead, it's the refs responsibility to stop play immediately.'"
But surely play should have been stopped. You are not allowed to stop someone by making contact with their head, accidentally or otherwise. Tasi did nothing wrong and did not drop the ball until he was rendered unconscious.
The tackler has responsibility to position himself to make a safe tackle. Leuleuai initiated the contact that led to the head clash. I would have thought a penalty would be a minimum outcome. Otherwise we have a very dangerous game.
When compared to other penalties given, it seems baffling.
As I said before, well done to Widnes on a very good win.
