Would appreciate it if anyone can confirm Tom V V's testimonial year.....late 60's I think ?



Early memory of mine being at Knowsley Road for the Good Friday derby (I think it were Good Friday as the sun was shining and it were warmish !)



anyroad, I came along with my Dad and my brother from Wiggin...and I wondered why at half time they were both chucking change into a blanket that was being carried round the edge of the pitch by a couple of blokes.......who were of course collecting for Van Vollenhoven's benefit so to speak.....I'd love to know the year (I think Saints won )

I saw his last game at KR, he was carried shoulder high off the field by Rhodes and someother player, they played "now is the hour" over the tannoy, his last game for the club was away, I used to know the crowd figure for the game, only to say it was pathetic for such a great player.

I remember his 10 year testimonial collection v Wigan at KR. All the players went round with collection buckets at half time.



The last person to leave the field was Billy Boston,a nd the Saints speccies applauded him for it.



It was the only time Billy ever got cheered at Knowsley Road.

Friday 12 April 1968 it was then !....I'd not "turned" 10 year old...



I was there the Boxing Day of the same year an all, when it was frozen off at half time ....Wanbon had scored for Saints (I think) some name that Wanbon

I'm pretty sure that was boxing day 1970, although it could have happened on both occasions.
